Symptoms of ADHD

Attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder, commonly referred to as ADHD, can affect a child's schooling and social life. As a parent, that means you need to intervene and help your child manage if he or she has symptoms so he or she may thrive. At Northside Pediatrics Associates, serving Conroe, TX, and the nearby region, Dr. Ayotunde Faweya provides these patients with a child ADHD treatment program. Let's discuss.

What's ADHD?

ADHD is a neurodevelopment disorder. It can make it more difficult for a child to sit still and listen. It also makes controlling his or her behaviors more difficult for him or her. The symptoms are most often seen in children, but this condition affects teens as well. Boys tend to suffer from ADHD more than girls, though either gender may have it.

Symptoms of ADHD

You may notice symptoms of ADHD in children as young as four. But it's common for a practitioner to hold off a diagnosis until a child is slightly older since young children are often naturally hyperactive.

A person with child ADHD may be easily distracted and has difficulty finishing tasks or following directions. You may talk to your child, and he or she will appear to not be listening. Tasks that require attention to detail may be difficult for a kid with ADHD. They may make careless mistakes and forget about daily activities and struggle to stay organized. If your kid has ADHD, he or she may not like activities that require him or her to remain still. Daydreaming is common in children with ADHD. Other possible symptoms include:

  • Won't sit still
  • Has difficulty playing quietly
  • Can't stay seated
  • Fidgets or squirms when seated
  • Talks excessively
  • Struggles to wait for his or her turn
  • Interrupts others
